This special brass wire that we use for making the KGE ligature is actually the very reason we discovered this method of tying on. Our previous wire was too brittle to make it work and not supple enough. We started to use this new wire on our reeds recently in the more traditional way to keep the reed open, and then we realised this new method of tying on could work, but only with this particular brass wire.
